PROMOTING AND PROTECTING HUMAN RIGHTS

Conscience International (CI) continued its educational and sensitization program through the activities of its information unit and other units. Staffs of CI have continued to present papers on various aspects of human rights (peace and development) at schools, seminars, workshops and civil society groups, both in The Gambia and abroad.

MEDIA Taken into account the significant role being played by the media in educating, informing and sensitizing the people and its influence on public opinion, the Information Division is in constant touch with them. This is with a view to keeping them informed of CI’s activities, so that they could help spread its human rights and related messages throughout The Gambia and beyond.

EXTERNAL CO-OPERATION

Over the years, CI continued to maintain strong links with its partners at various levels. CI strength comes from our relationships with our partner organizations and communities around the globe. At the centre of these relationships, is a cumulative commitment to service humanity.
We continue to develop new partnerships as the scale and scope of our work grows. With the experience of our practical development work, we increase our impact by informing and influencing a wider attention for key decision-makers in community.

RELATIONS WITH THE GOVERNMENT

Relationship with the Government of The Gambia, in whose country CI secretariat is located, continued to be cordial. The NGO registration Certificate issued to CI by the NGO Affairs Agency under the Department of State for Lands and Local Government and the Memorandum of Understanding signed between CI and the Department of Social Welfare summed up the cordial relationship we have.

The Gambia Government is encouraged to take an active interest in the work of CI through the involvement of Government officials as speakers or participants, in workshops, seminars and training program held by CI in The Gambia.

RELATIONS WITH THE AFRICAN CENTRE FOR DEMOCRACY AND HUMAN RIGHTS STUDIES

The African Centre has continued to support and advice CI on its activities since 2004. The African Centre organizes the NGO Forum to prepare NGOs for participation to the Ordinary Session of the African Commission. CI with its met financial obligation has continued to participate in the NGO forum both in The Gambia and abroad, acquiring knowledge and experience. The courses offered at the Centre have provided the Staff of CI an added academic background for the effective implementation of projects and its Legal work.

INTERNAL CO-OPERATION

In the execution of its functions, CI continued to keep in close touch with several NGOs and civil society organizations in the country. These include the foreign missions and UN agencies based in The Gambia, country offices of international organizations and national organizations/institutions.

Cooperation exists in the form of regular consultations on human rights issues and invitation to each other’s workshops and seminars either as resource persons or participants.
