The target groups of the CI include the general public, the marginalized, community leaders, opinion leaders, politicians, policy makers, refugee and asylum seekers, legislators, law enforcers, community based organizations, civil society organizations, existing NGO networks, and various national, sub-regional, regional and international organizations.

CI STRATEGIC PLAN

THREE-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN

Looking into the next three years, the CI’s overall strategy is to consolidate its current core activities, while ensuring that its programs continue to be relevant to human rights issues in The Gambia and beyond.

The CI’s current structure will be closely monitored to ensure that the objectives of creating a nexus, that will neatly interweave its various units and activities is achieved.

A major focus of CI in the immediate future will be to follow up on communities and participants that have benefited from its programs. This is with the view to assessing the impact of its various projects and programs in building the capacity of individuals and communities, for their involvement on matters pertaining to human rights in The Gambia and beyond.

CI plans to acquire, through its partners, the full complement of printing equipment required to facilitate the printing of all its publications within its premises. This will considerably reduce the current huge costs of printing. Among equipment required are computers, laser printer, digital cameras and facilities for stitching and binding.

Close links will also be established with higher educational institutions and human rights organizations throughout the globe for the provision of interns and exchange program.

The library will increase its collection of periodicals, books and other relevant human rights materials to continue to cater for the needs of the other units of CI, NGOs, civil societies and other users.

Build reliable relations with key partners for the purpose of implementing advocacy initiatives. The organization will seek support for the strengthening of existing programs and activities. Ensure effective performance and develop self-sustainability of the CI

The Legal and Research Unit will continue to monitor human rights issues in The Gambia and beyond, advice on ways and means to achieve redress for human rights violations and collect and document reports of human rights violations in The Gambia and the wider world for the attention of the African Commission and responsible UN bodies. The Legal team shall continue to embark on litigation procedures before the African Commission with a view to protecting the Rights of Women and Children trapped in the Darfur Crisis. The Legal Unit shall also advise and take action towards the criminalization of Female Genital Mutilation in The Gambia.

CI will launch a human rights and peace education programme in High Schools and Tertiary Institutions in The Gambia as a stepping-stone towards promoting human rights education. In order to reduce the high rate of community violence in rural areas, CI figures the training of village leaders on Community Mediation.

CI will embark on project writing on pressing issues that needs serious attention and solicit funds for its implementation.

In a nutshell, CI hopes to continue to pursue its mandate with renewed vigor and assists in making the rights of man, woman and child on the continent of Africa and the world at large, a tangible reality.
